Swiss expert: dialogue in Minsk enables us to build relations and bridges between countries

Sanctions affect both the targeted country and the sanctioning country – as noted by founder of the Geneva Institute for Multipolarity (Switzerland) Guy Mettan on November 1st, on the side-lines of the 2nd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security

The expert noted the double-edged nature of illegal economic restrictions, “Security issues directly affect the economies of countries. Sanctions affect both the targeted country and the sanctioning country. This also applies to European countries, particularly Germany, where the economy is in decline due to sanctions.”

Assessing the Minsk negotiation platform, Mr. Mettan noted, “Belarus is the fifth country in the world in terms of the number of sanctions imposed on it. Russia is in the first place. The fact that the dialogue is taking place here, on the Minsk platform, is very important, because it enables us to build relations and bridges between countries.”

The conference is taking place in Minsk on October 31st and November 1st, 2024, bringing together 600 participants from about 45 countries. The forum focuses on the paradigm shift of the world order: from unipolarity to multipolarity. How to minimise security risks amid increasing transformation of the international order? How to revive diplomacy when all attention is focused on military deterrence? These and many other aspects are under discussion by the participants of the conference in the Belarusian capital.
