Summer 2023 hottest in at least 2,000 years

According to a new study, due to the intense heat in the Northern Hemisphere, which caused wildfires in the Mediterranean, destroyed roads in Texas and power grid problems in China, the summer of 2023 is considered the hottest in about 2,000 years, Reuters reports

This conclusion was made in one of two new studies published on May 14th. Scientists have announced that last year’s period from June to August was the warmest since record keeping began in the 1940s.

“The new work, published in the journal Nature, indicates that the heat of 2023 significantly exceeded temperatures over a longer period. This conclusion was made based on the study of meteorological records dating back to the mid-1800s and temperature data obtained from the analysis of tree rings in nine northern regions,” the publication reads.

According to the study, last year the air temperature in the summer season in the area between 30 and 90 degrees north latitude was 2.07 degrees Celsius above the average of the pre-industrial period.
