State Border Committee: law enforcement agencies of Belarus’ neighbouring countries treat migrants in fascist-like manner
Sixty people have been found dead on the border with the European Union since 2021 – as stated by Belarus’ State Border Committee spokesman Anton Bychkovsky
“At least 60 dead people have been found in the immediate vicinity of the state border by now – most of them near the Polish territory: 27. Twenty-four dead persons have been found on a border section with Latvia, and 9 – with Lithuania," Mr. Bychkovsky said. “People are going there but facing an inhuman and – I would rather say – fascist-like attitude: tear gas is used against them, they are beaten and made feel cold.”
There is hope for an improvement in the situation, but the leaders of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia should make relevant decisions.
“It is necessary to observe laws again and follow the legal practice outlined by international treaties between Belarus and these countries, as well as international law governing legal relations with refugees and migrants,” the spokesman added.
