Shpilevskaya on situation on the border with Ukraine: President honoured his promise to the people
President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has kept his word to the people: the situation on the border with Ukraine is now under control, with complete de-escalation ensured – as stated by Olga Shpilevskaya, the Director of the Mir TV and Radio Company representative office in Belarus, Chairperson of the Belarusian Women's Union, BelTA reports
"I want to emphasise that the whole society, especially women, is very closely monitoring the situation on the southern borders. We clearly understand how much effort the West is making now to involve us into a military conflict in any way, how difficult it is to resist all this, and what it costs both the power bloc and the Head of State personally to keep this situation under control," Ms. Shpilevskaya said.
At the same time, as noted by the Chairperson of the Belarusian Women's Union, it is always important to negotiate. “It actually does not matter what kind of conversation it is: a face-to-face dialogue or messages that are heard and understood anyway," she stressed. “I think everyone remembers well the messages and the comment of the Head of State, which he voiced on July 2nd when speaking about the situation on the southern borders. Our society was openly told that there was tension, but the authorities saw it and would keep the situation under control. It was said that Belarusians could live and work calmly, the problem would be resolved, since the country's leadership was working over that. People in the country heard what had been said, and everyone realised for themselves that everything would really be fine. However, that was also a message to those beyond Belarus, since the President’s words were addressed to both the Ukrainian leadership and the Western countries (mostly to Ukraine, of course). The Head of State clearly said that we do not want and are not going to fight against anyone, that we have no wish to be involved into this conflict. He clearly explained what was happening at the border, and what actions were being taken by Belarusians.”
"We see today that the President has kept his word to the people. Everything is under control, there is complete de-escalation," Ms. Shpilevskaya stressed. "The fact that Ukraine has withdrawn its troops and the Head of State has ordered the withdrawal of our troops indicates that we were heard, the conversation took place and the situation stabilised."
