Sergeyenko: Belarus, Pakistan have potential for dynamic development of co-operation in all areas

In recent years, relations between Belarus and Pakistan have significantly advanced – as stated by the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, Igor Sergeyenko, at a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Republic of Belarus, Sajjad Haider Khan, sb.by reports

As noted by Mr. Sergeyenko, Belarus and Pakistan celebrated the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations last year. In addition, in 2024, a number of landmark meetings and trips at the highest level took place, the preparation of which was directly attended by the Ambassador of Pakistan to Belarus.

“At the end of November 2024, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko visited Pakistan – holding a meeting there with the Prime Minister. A roadmap for 2025-2027 was signed then, opening up new prospects for the co-operation development,” the Chairman of the House of Representatives said. “In October 2024, the Prime Minister of Belarus took part in the meeting of the heads of government of the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation member states in Pakistan. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to you and your country for being one of the first to ratify the memorandum of Belarus’ obligations in obtaining the status of a SCO member state.”

Mr. Sergeyenko stressed that the visit of the parliamentary delegation led by Speaker of the National Assembly of the Parliament of Pakistan Sardar Sadiq left an indelible impression, “There was an interested exchange of views, a conversation between the parliamentarians of the two countries on specific issues of socio-economic, socio-political development and, in general, on building a dialogue between the parliaments of Belarus and Pakistan. Most importantly, the agreements reached during our meeting are being implemented today. As a result of visits by businessmen from Pakistan to a number of Belarusian enterprises, contracts for the supply of Belarusian equipment are being realised. That was all done with the help of parliamentarians. Of course, the roadmap signed by the heads of our states suggests the creation of a joint production and the manufacturing of this equipment in much larger volumes in the future.”

The Chairman of the House of Representatives noted the contribution of Sajjad Haider Khan to the strengthening of Belarusian-Pakistani cultural and humanitarian ties, and the evidence of this is the opening of cultural centres in Vitebsk, Gomel, and Borisov. He added that the diplomat had participated in many cultural events in Belarus, “You have prepared a serious ground for the Prime Minister, who is expected to pay a visit to Belarus later this year. He will have something to rely on in his work. I am confident that the high level of relations between Belarus and Pakistan will serve as a reliable basis for the dynamic development of co-operation in all areas.”
