Russian Governor: Arkhangelsk proposes Belarus to create port terminal for potassium transhipment
The Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region, Aleksandr Tsybulsky, suggested that Belarus consider the creation of a specialised terminal for transhipment of Belarusian goods, in particular potash fertilisers, in the city port
During his recent meeting with the Ambassador of Belarus to Russia, Dmitry Krutoi, the governor informed on the approval of a special programme by the Russian government that envisages the comprehensive accelerated development of the Arkhangelsk transport hub until 2035. It implies the implementation of an infrastructure project for the construction of a deep-water area of the Arkhangelsk seaport, which will be able then to receive vessels with a draft of up to 15 metres and handle cargo all year round.
“The project of creating a specialised terminal for transhipment of Belarusian goods has been considered for quite a long time. Taking into account the prospects that were approved by the decision of the Russian government, I think that you could definitely be competitive by offering this port as the main point of departure of goods. Considering our existing and promising terminal capacities, the shipment of goods by entrepreneurs and exporters of Belarus through the Arkhangelsk port can become a promising area of joint activity," Mr. Tsybulsky stressed.
The governor added that the negotiations on the issues had recently been held with Belarus’ representatives. The republic is interested in the prospect of using Arkhangelsk for cargo transhipment, given that its port allows access to the ocean without crossing the territorial waters of other states.
“For my part, I want to confirm that we are ready to fully synchronise our plans for the development of the Arkhangelsk transport hub with the interests of the Belarusian side in order to become the base point for sending goods from Belarus to foreign countries,” Mr. Tsybulsky stated.
