Belarus’ Red Cross Secretary General: Europe uses migrants as good cover for militarisation
Refugees are beneficial to Europe not only from a political point of view, migrants are a good cover for militarisation – as noted by Dmitry Shevtsov, the Secretary General of the Belarus Red Cross, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission on Health, Physical Culture, Family and Youth Policy of the House of Representatives, during the Minsk-Moscow Union State live streaming
“Migrants are a good cover for building not only anti-tank ditches and fences, but also for deploying NATO bases and pulling in a group of troops,” the expert said. “According to the latest estimates, about 40 thousand troops are being currently concentrated at our border. This shows direct belligerence... Everyone remembers how in 2021 poor migrants were sitting by the barbed wire at the border, with armoured vehicles on the other side. And when the questions were asked what’s going on, they allegedly pulled off these vehicles and these soldiers (not just border guards) so that migrants would not cross the border en masse. In my opinion, a small group of people is enough to regulate these passages. So all of this is a ramping up of militarisation.”
Answering the programme host’s question about why Europe has such a different attitude towards refugees from Ukraine and the Middle East, Dmitry Shevtsov noted, “Hypocrisy is the hallmark of the European Union. It has existed for a long time, but recently the radically changing world has confused everything so much that the maxims that Europe was changing have come off. And we have seen it all with our own eyes. After all, according to Europe’s rhetoric, the world has long been divided into human and subhuman. The statement of Borrell [EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy] about the ‘European garden’ and the ‘jungle’ is enough. The same applies to migrants.”
