Rachkov: Belarus leads others in food security

Belarus is completely self-sufficient when it comes to food and supplies it abroad, said Sergei Rachkov, the Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, when asked to comment on the poll results demonstrating Belarusians’ confidence in their future and the country’s economic development prospects

“In the situation when Belarus remains under the unfair and illegal sanctions pressure, we are still going our own way. We meet all targets set by the President, the government, and the Belarusian People's Congress. A lot has been done for the country’s social infrastructure, industry, agriculture, family prosperity, not only in the 30 years President Lukashenko remained in the office, but particularly in the recent 2-3 years,” said Mr. Rachkov.

As the MP pointed out, Belarus leads others when it comes to food security.

“Today, when the most countries in the world are faced with food security issues, we are fully self-sufficient thanks to food produced in Belarus, and we supply our food abroad as well. When I recall my trip to the United States last year, I remember seeing empty shelves there. Food prices are rising notably in the US, so the food security problem is a pressing one. The Republic of Belarus provides itself with food and helps other countries. Friendly countries, primarily. We develop our relationships with the far arc countries that also need our food and fertilisers to develop their own farming industries. So it’s no wonder Belarusians are able to look confidently into the future,” he concluded.
