Quadrantid meteor shower to peak on January 4th

The Quadrantid meteor shower will hit its peak on the night of January 3rd-January 4th. Astronomers predict up to 120 ‘falling stars’ per hour, TASS reports.

The best time to look up at the sky will be from midnight till dawn, when the meteors’ apparent point of origin (the radiant) is going to be high up in the sky.

“The first meteor shower of 2025 will pour on the night of January 3rd-January 4th. The Quadrantid meteor shower is expected to peak at up to 120 meteors per hour, or 1-2 per minute if the sky is clear,” the Moscow Planetarium informed adding that the conditions for observing the upcoming meteor shower are good.

The Quadrantid meteor shower got its name from the Quadrans Muralis constellation that is no longer recognised in the modern astronomy. Its radiant point is at the northern edge of the constellation Boötes, not far from the Big Dipper. Look for it over the northeastern horizon.
