Polish authorities are deploying K2 tanks purchased from South Korea in Braniewo, located a few kilometres from the border with Russia’s Kaliningrad Region, TASS reports
As the spokesperson of the 16th Pomeranian Mechanised Division, Major Magdalena Koscinska told the Polish press agency, during the first delivery, the 9th brigade received seven tanks, another batch is expected by the end of the year. According to the spokesperson, the military unit currently has eight trained crews who have been trained with instructors from the 20th Mechanised Brigade.
In July 2022, Poland and South Korea signed a framework agreement for the supply of about a thousand K2 tanks manufactured by Hyundai Rotem Corporation. In August of the same year, a contract worth over $3bn was signed, under which Hyundai Rotem pledged to supply Poland with the first 180 tanks.
