Over 16% of investment sent to Belarus’ agriculture
Our country is building up the potential of its own agro-industrial complex, striving to ensure technological sovereignty and developing new industries – as noted by Svetlana Kondratenko, the Deputy Director for Research Work of the Institute of System Researches in the Agro-Industrial Complex at Belarus’ NAS
“Today, more than 16 percent of total investments in fixed assets are directed to agriculture,” the expert said. “And the industry is paying off: agriculture generates more than 7 percent of Belarus’ GDP and almost 7 percent of jobs.”
The work of farmers enables Belarus to ensure the high quality of food products for its residents. At the same time, the state stimulates and supports investment activity.
Every year, scientists monitor how the Concept and Doctrine of National Food Security are being observed. According to Ms. Kondratenko, more than 60 indicators are taken into account, including physical and economic accessibility, and food quality. She added that in many positions — milk, meat, sugar, eggs and many others — Belarus is fully self-sufficient. At the same time, there is still a reserve for import substitution in the market of fresh and processed vegetables and fruits, confectionery, cereals and other products.
