Opinion: Lukashenko enjoys authority all over the world as he is the first to give sound assessment of international situation
The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, is often the first to give an honest assessment of the events taking place in international politics, and that’s why the Belarusian leader enjoys great authority all over the world – as stated by the Director General of the National Library of Belarus, Vadim Gigin, in his talk with Alfa Radio
Commenting on the uncontrolled movement of weapons through Ukraine, which the President called a national threat to the whole world during the recently held CSTO Summit, Mr. Gigin noted, “Lukashenko often speaks before anyone else, providing an honest assessment of the situation. I visited the St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum not long ago. The event was attended by the most famous directors, actors and writers from 70 countries. There were more than 30 culture ministries there. Our President enjoys enormous authority not only among politicians, but also among cultural figures. The latter say: ‘your President was in Belgrade back in 1999 and, in the 2000s, he declared that unipolarity should be put an end to’. People remember that. Look at the speeches of Aleksandr Lukashenko at the UN, read the programme of international life and foreign policy co-operation which he voiced in the 1990s and 2000s. Just take a look at what is happening now. Back then, our President spoke of these things, about these threats, about ways out of this situation. People know and appreciate this, and it determines the authority of our President.”
Mr. Gigin added that the Belarusian leader has very important qualities of a statesman, “This is the realistic analysis, understanding of what is happening and prospects, as well as the intuition and tremendous experience. Belarus gives a sound, bold assessment of the international situation, and then other experts talk about it.”
