Next meeting of Belarusian People’s Congress scheduled to be held after Presidential election
The next meeting of the Belarusian People’s Congress is scheduled to be held after the Presidential election – as noted by the President of Belarus, Chairman of the Belarusian People's Congress Aleksandr Lukashenko, at today’s meeting of the Presidium of the Belarusian People's Congress, BelTA reports
Aleksandr Lukashenko recalled that the Presidential election will be held in the country on January 26th, 2025, and shared his views on the development of a programme that will be presented to the attention of citizens. "Since we have a certain unity, the programme of the current President – which is being worked out by all of us today – will be a landmark for all Belarusian people in January, and even December. Meanwhile, we will detail the tasks for the next year and, perhaps for the coming five years, after the Presidential election – on the basis of this programme,” the Head of State said.
At the end of the event, the Head of the Belarus President Administration, Dmitry Krutoi, confirmed that, most likely, a decision would be made to hold the next meeting of the Belarusian People’s Congress after the Presidential election, “This is because the election campaign is underway now, and it makes no sense to distract attention to these issues. Secondly, as the President said, an election programme with the main messages will be prepared (and he is currently working on it)."
Mr. Kruroi added, “The President will then begin preparing for the Address [to the Belarusian People and the National Assembly], which traditionally takes place in spring. I would not like to name specific dates and months, as they are not yet determined. On the eve of the Belarusian People’s Congress, the Presidium will gather again to check the positions and finally agree on the issues that will be included into the Congress’ agenda. It seems to me this is an absolutely simple and transparent plan.”
