Nehammer: Austria ready to become platform for negotiations on Ukraine
In his recent telephone conversation with US President-elect Donald Trump, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer expressed readiness to provide a platform for peace talks on the Ukrainian conflict, TASS reports with reference to the information spread by the ORF TV channel citing the Chancellery’s press service
It is reported that, during the conversation, Donald Trump touched on the topic of Karl Nehammer's last meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin immediately after the start of the special military operation. The future head of the White House was particularly interested in the prospects of ending the Ukrainian conflict. In this context, Karl Nehammer confirmed ‘Austria's readiness to become a platform for international peace talks’, the press service explained.
According to the results of a Gallup poll published on November 19th, the share of Ukrainians in favour of peace talks with the Russian Federation doubled over the year and reached 52 percent. The study emphasises that the growing fatigue of the Ukrainian population from the conflict is registered against the background of the successes of the Russian military at the front and doubts about the continuation of American aid after Donald Trump's victory in the US elections.
