Media: Poland to strengthen electronic barrier on border with Belarus

Poland will strengthen the electronic barrier on the border with Belarus – as noted by the spokesperson for the Podlaskie Border Guard unit, Major Katarzyna Zdanowicz, BelTA reports with reference to the Polish portal

The official noted that the Polish Border Guard Service had signed a corresponding agreement, envisaging additional cameras on some sections of the border to enhance monitoring.

The electronic barrier, i.e., a system of cameras and sensors to monitor the situation at the border, operates on 206km of the border line. Ms. Zdanowicz clarified that an electronic barrier is being built on the border sections of rivers in the Podlaskie Voivodeship — Svisloch and Istochanka – a section about 50km long.

According to her, the work on strengthening the electronic barrier will last until October 2024.

As the Polish Border Guard Service wrote on the social network X, the contract amount of work is estimated at about 125,260,000 Zlotys.

Moreover, the Polish authorities plan to strengthen by reinforcing the 5.5m barrier installed along 186km of the border. Ms. Zdanowicz said that the contract should be signed this week.
