Lukashenko: Union State media holding to start functioning in 2023
A solid and modern media holding is needed for the Union State – as noted by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, at today’s meeting with the State Secretary of the Union State, Dmitry Mezentsev
The Head of State recalled that the decision to create a media holding had been previously made by the presidents of Belarus and Russia, “Our common decision is to create a good, high-quality, solid and necessarily modern [media holding]. Otherwise, we will spend money, but there will be no sense. I am not a supporter of joining anyone or handing it to someone. We need an independent holding that would meet the spirit of the time. You see that time demands it. Who can we join these days? Who can Belarus and Russia join? Our destiny is to stay together and to have someone to join us. Therefore, I think that this media holding should start working this year, preferably in the H1 2023.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko believes that the two presidents’ administrations should actively engage in this issue. “Dmitry Fedorovich [Mezentsev] will not be able to solve this hard task alone, but his activity, his experience and knowledge in this area would help us seriously. At least you know how to organise the work of a holding, and this is very important. We know some of your proposals, and they are absolutely normally viewed in Belarus. The only thing, this media holding should be independent and self-sustained, if we want to create something serious and complete the twenty-eight 28 programmes that we outlined in the past. This work must be continued,” the Head of State said.
Some working issues were also discussed. As noted by the President, another meeting with Dmitry Mezentsev will need to be held before the Supreme State Council of the Union State meeting in order to work out its agenda in detail and to agree on the time of its holding.
