Lukashenko to proxies: we must do everything not to deceive our supporters’ expectations
The current government must do everything not to deceive the expectations of its supporters – as stated by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko on meeting his proxies today at the Palace of Independence
The Head of State noted that the registration of candidates for President of the Republic of Belarus had been completed, and expressed gratitude to all those who had supported him in this regard, “2.5 million signatures were collected, and that was a high level of trust. We must do everything not to deceive the expectations of our supporters.”
The Belarusian leader asked his proxies to thank people for their signatures in support of the current President during their visits to labour collectives countrywide. As for the trusted persons themselves, Aleksandr Lukashenko explained what he had been guided by while choosing them, “I was guided by the fact that I knew you personally. Moreover, you knew me to some extent. There were a lot of offers, and many people wished to act as my proxies.”
The President added why some people who had worked during the previous elections were not included in the present list, “It is not that someone was excluded or not excluded. The approach has changed a bit. I emphasise once again for you, Natalia Ivanovna [Kochanova], to convey to the proxies: people should know me at least a little – not in terms of what they saw on TV, but being involved somehow into the President's policies.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko once again thanked his proxies for their work and promised that, if the people elected him, he would not let them down, “For me, you know, this is the heaviest burden. People say ‘Batka, we trust’, and so on – but this is the most worrisome for the President, and I think for others as well. Trust must never be violated, especially for me.”
