Lukashenko: the very idea of our presence in Antarctica once seemed absolutely audacious

President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has met today with scientists and participants of the Belarusian Antarctic expeditions at the Palace of Independence

Addressing the participants of the meeting, the Head of State noted, “There was time, when the very idea of our presence in Antarctica seemed absolutely audacious, just like the idea of space exploration. However, we have conquered these impossible peaks.”

The President recalled that in 2006 he supported the accession of sovereign Belarus to the Antarctic Treaty, “We had to preserve the scientific potential gained in Soviet times and the continuity of research to form our own scientific school. We have a lot of young people in the hall today, proving that we did everything right at that time. Youngsters are being involved in science, a new generation of specialists is growing, and domestic scientific schools are developing.”
