Lukashenko spoke about paradoxes of history, liberation of Poland from fascism and current descendants of Nazis
Aleksandr Lukashenko urged not to speculate on the topic of the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact. The President of Belarus stated this during his speech at the large-scale patriotic forum – This is OUR History! –dedicated to National Unity Day.
The President stated, “Interwar Poland brought itself to collapse. When the decision was made to start the liberation campaign of the Red Army, it no longer existed as a subject of international politics. Pay attention to this. They [the Poles] say ‘there was no Belarus’ ... but at that time there was no subject which disputes this fact!”
The Head of State recalled that by September 16th, 1939, the country’s gold reserves had been transferred to Romania, and already on September 17th, the Nazis were in Brest. Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasised that the Nazi army stood on the threshold of Belarus. Then the Red Army came to the aid of the Western Belarusians and Ukrainians. The majority of the population greeted the Red Army as liberators and perceived the reunification of the Belarusian lands as an act of historical justice.
“This event stopped the insane blitzkrieg of Nazi Germany for two years. Moreover, it influenced the outcome of the Great Patriotic War. If there hadn’t been this reunification of the Belarusian lands, there wouldn’t have been this unity of the Belarusian, Russian, Ukrainian peoples – at least Moscow would not have resisted ... And here is another paradox of history. The Belarusians, in alliance with other Soviet peoples, not only won, but also – having cast aside previous grievances – liberated Poland from fascism. The Belarusian leader recalled that over 600,000 Soviet soldiers, many of them Belarusians, remained forever lying in Polish soil.
In this regard, the President rightly stressed, “And who, beyond the Bug River, remembers this today? How are they responding nowadays? Pole’s cards, Belsat fakes, Kalinovsky’s programmes, political emigration centres, Bypols, Bysols and other ideological sabotage ... Moreover, on the territory of these states, and especially in Ukraine (they found a convenient place), power units are being formed today to overthrow the government in Belarus and return us to at least that 1939 year.”
The Belarusian leader drew attention to such an important point, “The memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, who preserved the Polish nation and statehood, saved the Baltic states and civilised Europe from the brown plague, today they are simply being erased from history by the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Wehrmacht soldiers and German satellites.”
The Head of State stated that the collapse of Ukraine has already begun, and Polish, Lithuanian and Latvian politicians, apparently, naively expect to bargain for their future in the new geopolitical realities.
“They repeat the mistake of the late 1930s and early 1940s. You remember how everyone licked the boots of fascist Germany and Hitler, especially the leadership of Poland. What did it lead to? In early September, for two weeks, Poland ceased to exist. It is a pity that our neighbours have not learned the lessons of history. But the main thing is that we remember our historical experience, and our grandchildren do not have to rebuild their national statehood,” the Belarusian leader summed up.
