Lukashenko speaks of work after Constitution adoption

If Belarusians support the draft of the updated Constitution at a referendum, then much responsible work will follow to build the country anew – as President Lukashenko said during his meeting with senior officials of the Vitebsk Region today, BelTA reports

"It is important what will happen next. We will have to process hundreds of regulatory legal acts and build up the country as a whole – not only in terms of regulatory and legal culture. We will need to build up the country somehow in a new manner from the organisational point of view. This is my paramount task as President. No one will solve these issues instead of me. I should organise this work jointly with the Government, governors, chairmen of city and district executive committees, and with you – active functionaries – to ensure the country has a steady foothold on the necessary pillars,” the Head of State said.

"I am convinced that – if you work a little more and be more active – we will solve any problems. No other country and no other President – I believe – has such people like you,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasised another time, “A referendum is not aimed to meet Lukashenko’s interests. You should finally understand: people might not vote for changing the Constitution, and then the existing ‘authoritarian’ Constitution will remain in force. Any president will dream of this Constitution."

The Head of State noted that time has come to redistribute powers between government authorities. However, at the same time, it is important to prevent imbalance and concentration of all powers in one hand. Belarus should remain a monolithic state so that there is no dual power in the country.

"I do not want our children to be workhands. We left the times when we were under control, were barefooted and worked for someone else in the past,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed. “I do not want Rzech Pospolita to be present here – as our neighbours say, ‘od morza do morza’ [from sea to sea]. They want the whole of Belarus to be part of Poland. This will not happen. This is our country."
