Lukashenko signed amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code
The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, has signed the Law On Amending the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Belarus, which is aimed at ensuring the inevitability of responsibility for genocide, other grave crimes and the restoration of historical justice – as reported by the Belarusian leader’s press service
The law envisages the inadmissibility of refusing to initiate criminal proceedings and terminating proceedings against deceased persons who have committed crimes against the peace and security of mankind that do not have a statute of limitations, including genocide, as well as war crimes.
Their close relatives can act as representatives of the named persons. At the same time, the refusal of such relatives to participate in the process will not be an obstacle to the investigation of the case and the trial.
Proceedings in this category of cases will be carried out according to general rules with the obligatory participation of a defence lawyer.
If the guilt of the deceased person is proven, it is envisaged that a guilty verdict is passed against him without imposing a punishment.
