The Head of State emphasised that the adoption of amendments to the Basic Law had required bringing about 90 laws in accordance with the latter, and that responsible and painstaking work lasted about two years. “We have brought the laws and decrees into balance, but we must not forget that there are still departmental acts of state bodies – and the Government needs to solve this task,” Aleksandr Lukashenko addressed those present.
The President pointed out the most significant laws finalised by deputies and senators, “Our MPs have amended the fundamental laws on the President, the National Assembly, the Government, and constitutional court proceedings. A fundamentally new Code on Civil Procedure has been adopted. In turn, the Electoral Code, the Code on the Judicial System and the Status of Judges, as well as a number of other no less important documents, have been updated.”
According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the Law on the Belarusian People's Congress deserves special attention. “After this constitutional body is formed, the country will actually enter a new historical stage of its development,” he stressed.
The Head of State also mentioned a new law on the foundations of civil society, “Its provisions are aimed to ensure a greater disclosure of the potential of constructive civic engagement. The amended laws on political parties and public associations allow the activities of only those political organisations that strictly follow the constitutional requirements.”
