Lukashenko convened meeting with Council of Ministers leadership: pellet production working not particularly well
President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has convened a meeting today with the Council of Ministers leadership to discuss a range of important and fundamental issues that require urgent solutions. One of them is the efficient operation of pellet production.
As the Head of State noted, significant pellet production facilities have been created in the country, enabling us to use low-grade wood and woodworking waste in production, “It was my strict, urgent requirement. Why? Flying over the country, it’s scary to look at windbreak and all sorts of nasty things in the forests. Why not recycle it all and get an effect from it? We have built factories that turn all this into wood chips: something is added and we get an excellent fuel resource. How do these enterprises work today? We’re able to produce one million tonnes of pellets per year. We have invested a lot: both public and private. But today, due to known external circumstances, pellet production is working not particularly well. Stocks of low-grade commercial timber are growing, meaning that resources are rotting in the forest. At the same time, the measures taken by the Government, frankly speaking, did not produce any result.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko drew attention to the fact that if production facilities have been created, ‘they shouldn’t work at a loss’, “The problems that arise need to be settled comprehensively and consistently. At the meeting on industry, we’ve agreed that all issues related to the activities of pellet production will be resolved before the start of the heating season. Now it’s time to see how these plans and my assignments are being carried out.”
In this regard, the President asked about the prospects for the activities of pellet production and what has been done to find new markets and supply chains. The Belarusian leader is also keen to learn about the increased use of these products in the domestic market and the decisions that have been taken aiming to stimulate the use of pellets by the population in Belarus’ energy system.
