Lukashenko outlined world's problems at COP29 in Baku: situation worsened
The situation in the world has worsened since the COP28 event – as noted by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko in his speech at the World Climate Action Summit in Baku

The Head of State indicated that the speakers at the summit had talked a lot about their countries’ contribution to resolve the climate related issues, but he analysed the period since the previous summit and made an assessment of his own, “The situation has actually worsened. There are wars in the Middle East, in Ukraine and South Yemen; more than 50 conflicts in the world are severely affecting the climate on our planet. Has it become better because of them? Who started paying for emissions? Suffice it to say that [the states] who demonstrated concern about climate improvement before are not present at today’s conference. Moreover, they are sabotaging it. We can only guess what will happen further, after the US presidential election.”
The Belarusian leader asked all those present a logical rhetorical question: what is the effectiveness of activities at the events of the kind? “The President of France once considered himself almost great for the Paris Agreement. Where is this president today? Has the issue lost its relevance? This is the ‘efficiency’ of our work, so there's nothing to report yet,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.
The President is also convinced, “Those who think that, by not coming to this summit today, they will not be affected are mistaken. There was a storm in the United States not so long ago, and people were killed in Valencia [as a result of a natural disaster]. This shows how we are improving our climate.”
The Head of State added that there is nothing to blame Belarus for in this regard.
