Lukashenko on whether lady can be elected President in Belarus
While talking to journalists at the Traktor Stadium today, Head of State Aleksandr Lukashenko explained why a woman cannot lead the country in Belarus
The Head of State recalled the thesis he had voiced earlier that presidents are born rather than become, “A person should inherently have the fundamental qualities that will be useful in the Presidential post. This is the first point.” With this in view, Aleksandr Lukashenko mentioned the Presidential election – where society is ready to elect a black president, but is not a woman – as an example, “The Democratic Party and Biden are to blame. They understood that, and they should not have set Kamala Harris up. She, poor one, did what she could – running the propaganda, agitation and enduring all sort of bullying.”
However, according to the President, the Democrats had the opportunity to nominate a more suitable and stronger candidate, and Trump might not have been able to cope. “Actually, God saved him and helped him in the election campaign – probably also because he did not lose those elections [in 2020], though he was named the loser. Therefore, the Lord took him by the hand and returned him to the office. We will see soon how he will fulfil his promises. Making a promise and not fulfilling it is a routine in America. However, he is an experienced man, he is a true ‘bulldozer’: if he makes effort… The most important thing is that his actions do not do harm to the world, since it [the US] is the leading economy, the leading country, a monopolist. There should be no rash decisions. Donald has a feature: he may be too impulsive. We would really like him not to come in conflict with Russia, China, and all of them together. Careful steps are needed. I think the first term was a god lesson for him,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.
As for Belarus, the Head of State believes the Presidential post is not suitable for a lady. “First of all, [the President] is the Commander-in-Chief. The US President does not have the same powers as the Russian or Belarusian leader. In our case, it is necessary to delve into all issues. Our President is the Commander-in-Chief, but – besides that – it is the hardest job. It is no need to lumber a woman with such powers, it is not a ceremonial position. Maybe, over time, we will come to this style, but it is different for now. There is no need to shift our responsibilities to women. I admire women, and I do not belittle their role at all. They should actually be just near us,” the Belarusian leader noted.
