Lukashenko on what modern dairy farm should be like

President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has visited the Turok commercial farm of the Polesie-Agroinvest agricultural enterprise during today’s working trip to the Petrikov District. Once it was an ordinary dairy farm before being bought by the Mozyr Oil Refinery, which carried out reconstruction to raise young cattle. Now calves are taken here from the milking herd from the age of three weeks for rearing. The young cattle are placed directly in the fresh air, under a canopy, without any new-fangled polyethylene cages and other things.

The Head of State got acquainted with the technology of livestock keeping and expressed his assessment, “This is the most normal option. Calves should be kept under a roof. Animals don’t need palaces. The simpler the better. What’s so surprising about that? Everything is neatly done. A light roof, covered with slate, or whatever, the main thing is not to get numb. Everyone should be forced to do like this. It is necessary to set a task: each complex should have such a facility… This is an ideal option.”

As he got acquainted with the farm, the Head of State repeated the word ‘ideal’ more than once, underlining that this is exactly what a dairy complex should look like, “We don’t need anything else. But discipline is required. There should be managers in each district who know the technology of animal husbandry.”

Chairman of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee Ivan Krupko informed that 86 dairy complexes are planned to be built and reconstructed in the region by 2030. Moreover, it is planned to reconstruct 190 dairy facilities for the cultivation of young cattle.
