Lukashenko on election campaign: people need deeds, not words

Deeds, not words, are important for politicians – as stated by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko during his today’s meeting with employees of MotoVeloZavod JSC and Minsk City Technopark

Asked by journalists to comment on the election campaign, the President said, “Honestly, I’m not following. I don’t have time for that. I know there are debates, but I haven’t seen any. There’s no time for debates right now. Words are not needed today. Today people need deeds. And Belarus will never be the Belarus of the 1990s, when I, still young, was elected President. Back then, we couldn’t dream of these palaces, production facilities, etc. Back then, we had to survive. Now we have to develop, to fight. Soon we will open a plant to produce buses. We will show you that not only small-scale productions, as we have seen today, but also large-scale production facilities are being created nowadays. The demand for our buses is enormous. We’ve built this factory. That’s why we need deeds, I know that more than anyone. That’s why I keep on doing my own thing.”

At the same time, Aleksandr Lukashenko once again emphasised that we should not make a show out of the election campaign, “We are approaching the election. If you find the opportunity and time, come and vote. Make up your mind and vote. Today there are five candidates with different positions, different points of view. You are experienced, intelligent people. Think. I’ve never urged you to do anything. The only thing I’ll say is, come and vote. There’s a whole week from January 21st to 26th. If you have time, vote. If you don’t want to, we won’t drag you along.”
