Lukashenko: migration issues need more attention
During his today’s meeting with employees of the Minsk City Technopark residents, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko stated the need to deal more closely with migration issues, BelTA reports
According to the Head of State, the issue of labour migration was raised during his conversation with the technopark management. The President is not against providing jobs to foreign citizens: the latter must simply be qualified specialists.
"You may invite Tajiks, Uzbeks, Kazakhs, Syrians, Afghans or anyone else, if you wish – but you should know what kind of people they are, be sure that you need them, and that they can perform the required tasks. If they do not know how to work, then train them – but you will be responsible for this dozen of people, or more,” the Belarusian leader stated.
"Secondly, we must treat them well, as they are people just we are. They always work well if you treat them the right way. We will provide them with education and healthcare, and they will have everything we have. It especially concerns Ukrainians," the Head of State assured. “A lot of Ukrainians are coming to our county, and we must welcome them as our people. I have never heard that people who have come to us from Ukraine do not work well. They are good people."
“In the near future, we will consider all these issues at my level, and the relevant authorities are already working over them. As long as the fire is not burning in Belarus, this point needs to be addressed. Moreover, we need people, but each person should be monitored. We have trade unions, youth organisations, and parties — so get them involved to see whom we are inviting to work together, if necessary, of course,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.
The President touched upon that topic in his speech on Christmas Day as well. Speaking at the church, he noted, “I want to warn you that we have enough problems domestically, and challenges are emerging all the time – virtually, every month. The last challenge, which you have probably not noticed yet thank God (this is my job, this is the job of the Government, the authorities), is the forced migration of people who are fleeing the war. These people are different, and they have flooded Russia. The Lord has pitied us until today.”
"At the same time, I am already being reported that people from the East are actively coming. Among them are not only those who wish us some kind of hostility and war. There are people who want to live, work, earn money and send it to their families, to their children. The trouble is that these people are far from the affairs we are engaged into. They are incompetent. They are not professionally trained. Actually, it is not a great problem. The main thing is that these people should want to work and study, and our citizens can teach them. We need human resources, but uncontrolled migration is a disaster," the Belarusian leader said.
