“There are a lot of questions. There are some successes, but dissatisfaction with the results is also serious. Therefore, it was decided to set up a standing commission headed by the State Control Committee Chairman. He was instructed to involve the most responsible specialists and politicians in order to answer the topical issues of the NAS development,” the Head of State noted.

As for the work already done, the President stated, “The work has just begun, but I think it’s time to familiarise, perhaps, with some of the goals that the commission has set for itself, maybe with the conclusions, to outline the range of issues that need to be considered in detail. This is the way the conversation should go.”

The Head of State stressed that the current meeting is not the final one, “The final meeting will be held at the end of the year, when the commission will finish its work and present the first report. Based on the results of this report, we will make appropriate decisions. Perhaps there are already proposals for urgent, immediate decision-making. I’m ready to listen to all this. I want you to hear the task that our meeting faces today, and I ask you: do not try to draw final conclusions. Take time. The issue is very serious.”

The permanent working group analysing the NAS activities was established by the Head of State’s decree in June 2024. It consists of independent competent experts, reputable scientists with deep knowledge, high qualifications, significant experience in the scientific field and the public administration system. Chairman of Belarus’ State Control Committee Vasily Gerasimov was appointed its head.

The working group studies the issues of practice-oriented and effectiveness of scientific research and development by the NAS scientists, the introduction of developments in the sectors of the economy and social sphere, analyses the development of import-substituting products and technologies, the export of sci-tech goods.

If necessary, heads and specialists of the national government bodies and other organisations, specialised professionals in a specific field of science and practice are involved in the work of the group.
