Lukashenko: China is a foothold for Belarus in the vast Asian region

Among the states of the far arc, China remains the main strategic partner for Belarus – as stated by the President at a meeting of the Council of Ministers dedicated to summing up the results of the economy in 2022 and solving urgent tasks of socio-economic development for the current year

“We are not working with China properly yet,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated. “The market there is huge while we are losing millions even regarding the usual range of goods. This is unacceptable, because China for us today is a foothold in the entire vast Asian region. There have been recently some very serious developments there. If we don’t lose time, Russian and Chinese markets will be enough for us. The readiness for co-operation among the Chinese is colossal. As a result of my recent visit to Beijing, about 40 contracts – worth over $3.5bn – were signed. Now we must not lose time due to endless studies and approvals. All officials have been warned about this.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that we must not only increase the flow of goods, but also take technologies and create advanced production facilities, “It is necessary to get the most and restore the activity of Chinese businessmen on our territory, to increase Chinese investments several times. The interest in China towards Belarus is huge.”
