Lukashenko believes Belarus-Kalmykia economic breakthrough yet to come
As noted by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, during his today’s meeting with the Head of the Republic of Kalmykia, Batu Khasikov, a real economic breakthrough in the bilateral relations between Belarus and Kalmykia is yet to come – being contributed by transition from one-time trade deals to long-term contracts, creation of a repair base and spare parts warehouses, and strengthening of production co-operation
The Head of State emphasised that contacts with Kalmykia are becoming increasingly active: the visits of the delegation of the Republic of Kalmykia to Belarus, as well as the Belarusian delegation’s visit to Kalmykia in September 2022, meetings and negotiations have given an additional impetus to the development of bilateral relations.
“Meanwhile, I believe a real economic breakthrough is yet to come. In sporting terms, our current trade turnover is not even the first attempt, but a warm-up before this first attempt," the Belarusian leader said.
Belarus is ready to offer a wide range of products – including those covering mechanical engineering, construction, pharmaceuticals, the IT sector and high-tech transport – to this Russian region.
“In today's conditions, this is a normal product for us in terms of price ratio. Our products have long been in demand in many Russian regions, and I am sure that your citizens know them well. In our understanding, we need a transition from one-time trade deals to long-term contracts, the creation of a repair base and warehouses of spare parts, and the strengthening of production co-operation," Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.
The President noted that, in addition to the supply of agricultural machinery, trucks and passenger transport, it is worth paying attention to the Belarusian experience in the agro-industrial complex and processing industry. Moreover, developments in the construction sphere can be useful: Belarus has competencies, machinery, equipment, materials, as well as experience in constructing various facilities in Russian regions.
