Former Afghan migrant: Western policies are main cause for migration problems

In my opinion, the reason for the migration problems that are currently taking place all over the world is the policy of the West, former Afghan migrant Sayed Mohammed Shamkani said on the side-lines of the international conference on combating irregular migration and promoting regional co-operation to address the problem, held today, November 15th, in Minsk

“When Americans came to Afghanistan, they killed children and old people for decades,” said Sayed Mohammed Shamkani. “It’s true. They destroyed everything. In addition to the killings, there was also the trafficking of drug, which they themselves were growing at that time, and they were engaged in criminal activities themselves. Moreover, there were NATO representatives in Afghanistan: Germans, Poles. And the policy they are pursuing towards migrants now is fascism. They promised us a future, they promised us democracy in Afghanistan. And then they just ran away. For almost four decades, the United States has been unleashing conflicts around the world. Now, e.g., in the Middle East. They are destroying infrastructure, unemployment is growing among the population, there is nowhere for young people to study.”

According to the former Afghan migrant, the situation has forced many Afghan citizens to leave the country and become refugees.

“Now I live in Belarus. I have my family and children here,” he said. “Belarus is a dear country for me, its culture and traditions are close to me. Like thousands of other migrants, I was warmly accepted in Belarus. Some have large families, people have a residence permit, they get allowances, they have got flats. We thank the President, the state and the Belarusian people who welcomed us. As a person who lives here, I see that there is real democracy in Belarus. I take part in election, I am free to do business, my children go to school.”
