Belarusian Railway carried record breaking number of containers in 2024

In the ten months on 2024, Belarusian Railway carried 1,340,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) containers: a clean record for the entire period of container transport business in Belarus. Export and import shipments took up over 60 percent of the total amount carried, Transport and Communications Ministry press service told sb.by.

The previous record fell on 2021, when 1,250,000 TEU containers were carried by rail throughout the year.

The press service emphasised, when speaking about the new record, “Transport volume like that has been made possible thanks to uninterrupted operations of Belarusian companies and the policies enacted by Belarusian Railway together with freight owners and Belarusian authorities in order to build up new logistics chains and reorient cargo flows amidst changing market conditions. The record breaking container flow is a proof that the Belarusian economy is growing.”
