Lukashenko awarded nine settlements with pennons For Courage and Fortitude During Great Patriotic War

At today’s solemn meeting on the occasion of Victory Day held at the Palace of the Republic, Head of State Aleksandr Lukashenko awarded Baranovichi, Dzerzhinsk, Dyatlovo, Kalinkovichi, Lyuban, Osipovichi, Chausy, as well as urban settlements of Obol and Osveya with pennons For Courage and Fortitude During Great Patriotic War, following the relevant decree signed by the President in February 2024

The nine settlements awarded with pennons are a worthy example of the military and labour feat and national resistance manifested during the Great Patriotic War. The awards are linked to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from Nazi invaders and the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, and they also aim to perpetuate the feat of the Red Army soldiers, workers, partisans and underground fighters which they committed during the defence and liberation of Belarusian cities and other settlements.

Prior to that, 27 settlements in Belarus were awarded with pennons For Courage and Fortitude During Great Patriotic War. This insignia was established on October 6th, 2004 by a presidential decree to date with the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the republic from Nazi invaders. Each of these places was a real citadel of courage, in which incredible bravery was shown not only by soldiers, but also by ordinary people.
