The visit of the President of Belarus to Islamabad was approached responsibly: the capital of the Islamic state was decorated with Belarusian national symbols and posters with portraits of Aleksandr Lukashenko and the top leadership of Pakistan. The posters are signed in Belarusian and English: Mutual Respect, Trust and Partnership, Building Bridges for Flourishing Future, Partners in Progress, New Era of Partnership.

In parallel with the visit of the Head of State, a Belarusian-Pakistani forum has been organised in Islamabad. According to Mikhail Myatlikov, the Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Belarusian enterprises have already reached agreements worth $17m.

According to the 2023 results, the total trade turnover between the countries amounted to almost $50m. However, the President of Belarus believes that this figure does not correspond to the existing potential. In August, at a meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Parliament of Pakistan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the Belarusian Head of State stressed that the parties had agreed ‘to resume, by revising, relations, to bring them to an even higher level than it was before’.

"I think you will agree that the trade turnover between high-tech Belarus and a country which is home to more than 200m people [like Pakistan] is not so high. Therefore, it is necessary to intensify and expand our trade turnover in terms of nomenclature," Aleksandr Lukashenko is convinced.

The press service of the Head of State reported that the main attention during the visit will be paid to further expansion of mutually beneficial co-operation with an emphasis on practical steps to develop trade and economic liaisons.

Aleksandr Lukashenko will hold talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad. The meeting will be held in narrow and expanded formats with the participation of the delegation members. The parties will consider the most promising areas of co-operation and discuss a joint action plan for the future.

“Special attention will be paid to the topic of regional and global security, interaction in integration associations and joint work on international platforms. Following the negotiations, a package of international documents will be signed,” the press service of the Belarusian leader reported.
