Lukashenko arrived on a working visit to Kyrgyzstan for CIS summit

The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, has arrived on a working visit to the Kyrgyz Republic, whose capital – Bishkek – will be hosting a meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council on October 13th, BelTA reports

The event will traditionally be held in narrow and expanded formats. The Head of State will present Belarus’ position and proposals on the most pressing issues of interaction within the CIS.

The leaders of the CIS member states are expected to adopt a number of joint statements.

The agenda item on establishing observer and partner statuses for the CIS is aimed at expanding the potential of the CIS and increasing its role in the international arena.

It is also planned to introduce a number of changes to the legal acts of the CIS and discuss current issues on a wide range of topics.

On the sidelines of the summit, issues of bilateral co-operation between the countries will also be discussed: during meetings, negotiations and interaction between heads of state.


On the eve of the summit, a meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council was held in Bishkek, with Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik taking part on behalf of the Belarusian side.

The CIS Foreign Ministers Council approved four draft joint statements of the CIS Heads of State Council. Among them is s a draft statement on the principles of interstate relations in a multipolar world. The document reflects a common point of view on the importance of forming a sustainable multipolar world order, declares the intention to promote the building of a safe architecture of international relations to solve the problems of international and regional development, emphasises the desire to turn the CIS region into a space of peace, sustainable development and shared prosperity, confirms the openness of the CIS for broad international co-operation.  

As the press service of the CIS Executive Committee informs, at the summit on October 13th, it is also planned to sign an agreement on the establishment in the CIS of the International Organisation for Russian Language, an agreement on the formation of the International Centre for Assessing the Risks of Legalisation (Laundering) of Proceeds from Crime and the Financing of Terrorism and an agreement on the formation of the CIS Co-ordination Council for Forensic Activities.

It is planned to sign the interstate programme of joint measures to combat crime for 2024-2028 and to establish a CIS medal: ‘For Contribution to Strengthening Peace’.

It is also expected that the CIS heads of states will decide to declare Samarkand (Republic of Uzbekistan) as the CIS Cultural Capital for 2024.
