Kochanova: Belarus, China formed exemplary model of strategic co-operation
Thanks to the far-sighted and wise policy of the leaders of Belarus and China, the countries have formed an exemplary model of strategic co-operation – as stated by Natalya Kochanova, the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, on meeting Zhao Leji, the Chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, in China

As noted by Ms. Kochanova, joint parliamentary activity is among the most important areas of bilateral co-operation. “We have created a comprehensive legal framework, and in this regard, the year 2023 was particularly significant,” she explained. “An interparliamentary agreement was signed between the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the National People's Congress. The status of the parliamentary co-operation mechanism was also raised: the High-Level Committee on Co-operation between the Legislative Bodies of the Republic of Belarus and the People's Republic of China was established, and its first meeting took place on May 28th. In the near future, we plan to form a new friendship group in the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the eighth convocation.”
In recent years, the legislative bodies of Belarus and China have successfully held a number of significant events: a seminar of women parliamentarians, an online meeting on the exchange of experience of Belarusian and Chinese parliamentarism, a roundtable on the youth policy of Belarus and China.
“Co-operation in the field of healthcare, education, science and culture is seen as an urgent area of interparliamentary liaisons,” Ms. Kochanova believes. “On visiting a medical institution [in China on May 29th], we got convinced of that. We saw that we had something to share with each other.”
