“After the start of the special military operation in Ukraine, in March 2022, the Interior Minister ordered to deploy some of Belarus’ special forces, in particular, some of the special rapid response (SOBR) units to the border regions. After arriving to cities along the border, they started providing cover, security, and support to local police forces,” Mr. Bykov said.

As he also revealed, newly formed SF units have been stationed in the border areas of Brest and Gomel regions since last year, for counter-terrorism and counter-sabotage purposes.

“In doing so, they also ensure military security along the border, preventing saboteur units from infiltrating across it,” he explained.

Mr. Bykov went on to add that the six newly formed Special Forces detachments are now stationed in each region of Belarus, “They have fully staffed, professionally trained, and well-armed units that know their objectives and achieve them in time. We are also training forces that can be deployed on a very short notice from Minsk to help.”
