Interior Ministry on Presidential election security: all units know their objectives well

The Interior Ministry is ready to ensure security during the Presidential election, the First Deputy Commander of the Internal Troops Aleksandr Bykov told the STV TV channel

Mr. Bykov assured that officers’ training is going on as planned, “We know very well that an event like this electoral campaign carries a risk of provocations, or attempts to destabilise the situation. Mass riots, as 2020 proved, are also possible. All our units know their objectives well.”

He added that the Internal Ministry has more than enough people and resources. “We are ready for anything and will secure any objective,” he said.

The First Deputy Commander also revealed details of the Interior Ministry’s SF units training programme that is being adjusted constantly in line with new realities. Among other things, their exercises are being overseen by instructors with real combat experience.

“We pay very close attention to developing our UAV and anti-UAV countermeasure capabilities. We have a number of facilities where we train drone operators and develop anti-UAV equipment. They are operating with success, training new recruits. Our pool of weaponry and materiel has been expanded significantly; we have everything we need for our specific purposes: means to strike both the opponent’s manpower and armoured vehicles. I mean large calibre mortars and other weapons systems,” Mr. Bykov elaborated.

He believes that training units is the key objective.

“Their training is at a sufficiently high level already. All Interior Ministry’s Special Forces are being trained for action according to the most flexible and advanced system available, in line with combat realities and all potential challenges we might have to face,” he added.
