Interior Ministry: 4,000+ citizenship applications considered in Belarus in 2022

Since the beginning of the year, 4,075 applications for admission to Belarusian citizenship have been considered – as informed by Aleksei Begun, the Head of the Interior Ministry’s Citizenship and Migration Department

According to the Interior Ministry, thousands of foreigners apply for Belarusian citizenship every year, and 4,075 such documents have already been studied in 2022. Most applications were submitted by Ukrainians: 2,811. Out of the total number, 3,997 foreigners’ requests have been met.

The internal affairs bodies spend as little time as possible on considering appeals, also doing this in a simplified order – which is a confirmation of Belarus’ openness for law-abiding and hardworking people. For many years, this policy has remained unchanged and is being successfully implemented.

“Those who express a desire to become a part of our society mandatory need to permanently reside in Belarus for five years, have a legitimate source of income, comply with the provisions of the Constitution and legislation. For example, three or more administrative penalties will become the basis for refusing to grant citizenship," Mr. Begun explained.
