India’s population likely to exceed 1.5bn people by 2036
The population of India will reach 1.522 billion people by 2036, TASS reports with reference to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation of India
It is noted that the proportion of residents aged 60 years and older is projected to increase. At the same time, the number of residents under the age of 15 will decrease due to a lower age birth rate.
In addition, it is reported that the number of women will increase to 48.8 percent by 2036, which will contribute to improving the level of gender equality in the country (there will be 952 women per 1,000 men compared to 943 in 2011). This will provide benchmarks for socio-economic progress and ensure a better position for women in Indian society.
As a result, India will become the most populous country in the world for a century, and it will be ahead of China until 2100.
