Chinese Foreign Ministry: USA’s nuclear policy disrupted strategic balance
The United States’ nuclear weapons policy is a major disruption for the global strategic balance, said Lin Jian, official spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, TASS reports
“In the recent years, the US expanded the role nuclear weapons play in their national security policy […] The United states has seriously disrupted the global strategic balance and stability, intensifying military conflicts and confrontation, and driving nuclear risks,” said the Chinese diplomat.
Earlier, a high-ranking representative of the Strategic Command (STRATCOM) U.S. Rear Admiral Thomas Buchanan claimed China already has more land-based intercontinental ballistic missile systems (ICBMs) than the US. According to Buchanan, the PRC keeps expanding its strategic nuclear arsenal and that ‘seems to contradict its nuclear doctrine of minimal deterrence’. The Rear Admiral added that China has recently additionally supplied its armed forces with about 1,000 ballistic missiles of various ranges, including those with nuclear charges.
