Gusakov: first cosmonaut from Belarus will be a woman
The preparatory process of a candidate for space flight from our country will be completed by September 2023 – as noted by Vladimir Gusakov, the Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, during his talk Belarus 1 TV channel, when sharing the details of the selection of candidates from Belarus for the flight, as well as what programme the cosmonaut will have to complete
Vladimir Gusakov said that the selection focused on young women, “The most important condition was that the candidates were suitable for health reasons, and their age was from 22 to 30 years. The young women have already been selected and sent to the Cosmonaut Training Centre in Russia, where they will undergo a medical examination. Then one applicant for the flight and her backup will be selected. After that, the young women will have a six-month training. The preparation will be serious, with special simulators being involved. The preparatory process is expected to be completed by September 2023.
The Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus also said what is included in the scientific programme that the Belarusian cosmonaut will have to complete during the flight, “It will be research in the field of physiology, health, biotechnology, agricultural research (it is possible to grow some kind of greenery in space), and the cosmonaut will also have to test certain devices and equipment previously created by Belarusian scientists.”
Vladimir Gusakov noted that the Belarusians will have a big and intense programme in space, and they will have to arrive with the results.
