German port workers stage warning strikes

Employees of the German ports of Hamburg and Bremen are holding a warning strike, RIA Novosti reports

Press secretary of the Port of Hamburg Mathias Schulz, in response to a written request from RIA Novosti, said, “Warning strikes are taking place in Hamburg and Bremen.”

According to the Tagesschau portal, the strikes are also staged in the ports of Bremerhaven, Wilhelmshaven and Emden. It is noted that about 800 people are participating in the strike in Bremerhaven.

The same warning strike was organised in the ports of northern Germany by the country’s second largest trade union, Ver.di, in mid-June 2024, demanding to increase salaries for port workers.
