Georgian authorities may ask Constitutional Court to outlaw opposition parties

Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze did not rule out petitioning the country’s Constitutional Court to declare the opposing political parties illegal, TASS reports

“They [the opposition] acted openly against Georgia’s constitutional order these days, and that gave us legal grounds to ask the Constitutional Court to declare these parties unconstitutional. Let’s wait and see how things are going to develop. It’s all in our hands,” said the PM.

Irakli Kobakhidze chaired the first meeting of the new government while protests were raging in Georgia.

Earlier, he announced that the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party had decided to suspend negotiations on the country’s EU ascension till 2028.
