Georgia does not intend to repeal anti-LGBTQ law despite EU appeals
The ruling Georgian Dream party will not abandon the law banning LGBTQ propaganda, even if it makes it difficult for the country to integrate into the European Union – as noted by the ruling party’s Executive Secretary Mamuka Mdinaradze, TASS reports
“Even if [the anti-LGBTQ law] temporarily prevents us from doing something, we will disregard these [European] so-called values. We’d better be two or three years late [with EU integration], but we will never, I underline, never repeal the law banning LGBTQ propaganda,” Mr. Mdinaradze stated during a briefing.
He stressed that the country’s authorities would not trade the decent future of the next generations for the achievement of ‘their own mercantile political goals’. Mr. Mdinaradze added that ‘LGBTQ propaganda is not European values’, “We do not want and cannot imagine such a Europe.”
