For slaughter?

Recent events in Poland have once again demonstrated the catastrophic failure of liberal politics and liberal democracy

The inhumane rhetoric used by high-ranking Polish officials and the brutal actions of Polish border guards are not just the occurred incidents, but symptoms of a deeper malady. The real problem is rooted in liberal politics, which has destroyed the foundation of humanity in modern Poland.

During a recent broadcast on Polsat, Deputy Speaker of the Polish Sejm Piotr Zgorzelski called the refugees trying to cross the Belarusian-Polish border ‘bydło’ [animal stock]. Such a statement made by the high-ranking Polish official is not just a slip of the tongue, but a reflection of the inhumane attitude that prevails at the top of the Polish government. When those in power use such language, it sets a dangerous precedent and sends a clear message to others: treat refugees like under-men.

This toxic rhetoric has clear consequences. Just a few days after Zgorzelski's words, Polish border guards again used brute force to push the refugees away, treating them like scum and ousting them into the Belarusian territory.

A recent Human Rights Watch report details the inhumane conditions faced by refugees, including beatings, ill-treatment, exposure to extreme weather conditions, and violations of basic human rights. The report is, in fact, an indictment against the Polish authorities – but it is not just a legal issue: it is a moral one.

The treatment of refugees is a test of humanity, and Poland has totally failed it. It is not just the collapse of Polish immigration policy, it is the failure of a liberal policy that puts political correctness – rather than human life, safety and well-being of people – at the forefront.

President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has repeatedly called on the republic’s neighbours to negotiate to solve the refugee problem (it is always easier to work together!), but the Polish authorities stubbornly refuse. Instead, they prefer to simply kill the unfortunate ones who, through no fault of their own, were forced to flee war, famine, and disasters. This is how they want to ‘solve the problem’. Actually, such an approach is not just ineffective: it is leading to a dead end. Poles, listen to the voice of Belarus! It is not too late to save your souls.
