Experts on why Western sanctions against Belarus demonstrate its strength
The West is imposing sanctions against Belarus and Russia because it is afraid to fight the countries with other methods – as stated by the Dean of the Journalism Department at the Belarusian State University, political expert Aleksei Belyaev, in his talk with the Belarus 1 TV channel
The failure of the Western sanctions regime is already obvious, and even the Western media admit that the restrictions imposed on Belarus and Russia have not met expectations.
“On the one hand, sanctions are bad but, on the other hand, they are an indicator of our strength. Americans did not attack with sanctions those who were weaker: they instead bombed Yugoslavia, invaded Afghanistan, Iran, and Libya. They were doing that since it was possible to act by force there. They knew that no one would respond. As regards us [Belarus and Russia], they are afraid to act in a similar way: they know that a very serious response will follow. By imposing sanctions, they are simply closing all ways in and out, thus depriving themselves of all opportunities," Mr. Belyaev noted.
In turn, a deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, Oleg Gaidukevich, added that sanctions had made Belarus and Russia even stronger.
“The sanctions imposed against Belarus and Russia have stimulated economic growth and the systemic approaches of our countries to economic sovereignty. Belarus and the Russian Federation have recently signed an agreement on the development of a light multi-purpose aircraft. Some might think this news is of minor importance, but it is not so. Actually, many projects have already been outlined by the heads of state, and they will ensure the economic sovereignty of Belarus and Russia for years to come," the MP stressed.
