According to Xinhua news agency, experts have found significant features in the shape of the animal’s tail, the lower part of the beak and the location of photophores (glow organs). The specimen was found at depths between 800 and 1,000 metres in the South China Sea. It is noted that in its DNA structure, it was also possible to identify differences from the vampire squid known to science: Vampyroteuthis infernalis.

It is known that the vampire squid eats waste products, mucus, pieces of dead plants, as well as any biological debris.
