New coronavirus strain discovered in Ukraine
A new strain of coronavirus has been registered in Ukraine, and even previously vaccinated people can become infected, TASS reports
As stated by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, ‘the first cases of a new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus subvariant called FLiRT were registered in the country in July 2024’.
It is clarified that three cases of the FLiRT coronavirus subvariant were identified last week, and Deputy Minister of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Ihor Kuzin explained, “Even those who were previously vaccinated can get sick, although the immunity acquired after vaccination reduces the risk of complications during the disease.”
The Ministry of Health of Ukraine noted that the strain does not have a specific hazard assessment, but the World Health Organisation believes it needs to be monitored at the level of each state.
